From Leaf to STEM
This term, our Year 10 students took part in the Vertical Garden Project, a hands-on STEM initiative that brought together teachers from the workshop, science lab, and IT lab. Students designed and built vertical garden systems, using critical thinking and practical skills. Working in teams, they solved real-world engineering problems, integrating design, construction, and sustainability.
Throughout the project, students explored key science concepts like resource efficiency, energy conversion, and water distribution. They also designed and implemented a simple pumping system, gaining insights into water flow and sustainable practices. The students’ creativity and enthusiasm were inspiring as they applied problem-solving skills and innovative thinking to build their gardens.
The final projects were impressive, with students rightly proud of their work. The construction phase was especially engaging, with students fully immersed in the experience. This STEM project not only allowed students to apply their learning but also provided tangible and inspiring results in the form of their completed gardens.
