FESTIVALS AND EVENTS
Festivals and seasonal celebrations are an important part of a child’s school life at Shearwater, bringing a more conscious awareness to the children of the greater rhythms in nature and the world around them. We emphasise local content, acknowledging our indigenous Australian culture, and our place in the southern hemisphere.
Celebrations include the Winter Festival at the winter solstice, and the autumn and spring equinoxes. These may be celebrated through song, poem, dance, plays, food and community events.
TERM 2
Shearwater’s Winter Festival is a highlight of the year, in which the whole School community comes together to celebrate the return of the light, with the passing of the winter solstice, and to farewell our graduating Year 12 students as they prepare to head out into the world!
TERM 3
Our Spring Fair is an event much anticipated by the wider community, and includes music, games, activities, displays of student work and performances, in a celebration of community and connection with the outward impulse of spring.

Primary School and High School carnivals at the Petria Thomas Memorial Pool in Mullumbimby, are filled with fun and friendly competition, with something for all ages, from water-based games for the youngest children, to the much-loved ‘all-in-relay’ for upper Primary and High School students. Qualifiers are able to continue on to regional and state competitions as part of the Shearwater interschool team.
TERM 2 OR 3
Primary School and High School Sports Days are held late in Term 2 or early in Term 3 (weather dependent) and are a mix of games and competitive athletics, according to the developmental stage of the students.
