Spring has sprung and our Playgroup families are as busy as the bees. Our program encourages the children to participate in our daily tasks. We make our own ‘crunchy buns’ for lunch; learn to use a knife to chop our fruit; clean up after ourselves and work as a team. The adults model a strong sense of will, which encourages the children to be involved in learning with enthusiasm.
The young child needs to be surrounded by healthy sense impressions. Nature’s wonder provides endless learning and will resonate with the child’s innate knowledge of truth. The spring garden is in need of tidying up after the winter months. The turmeric has been mostly harvested and is in need of a good scrubbing. The silkworms have hatched and bring so much joy and a sense of wonder to everyone.
The children have been painting with the colour cobalt blue and now are exploring making green with lemon light and Prussian blue. It still fills me with joy when I hear a little one calling out in delight: ‘I made green out of yellow and blue!’
These early years are laying the foundations for a healthy sense of will, of feeling and of thinking.
