Spring is the season of renewal, growth and celebration. Here on beautiful Bundjalung Country we are celebrating gagabalingu– goanna season. Here is an excerpt from a song the Kindergarten children have been learning to celebrate the changing season.
Gagabalingu, we see you
When the snakes are waking and goannas are too.
Gagabalingu, we hear you
Native bees are humming with their buzzing tune.
Gagabalingu, we feel you
The sun is shining warm on dianella buds new.
Gagabalingu, we love you
Gagabalingu, we love you.
Signs of spring are peeking out all around in Kindy. Just like the buds are opening and blossoming into flowers in our garden, the Kindy children are opening and blossoming with growing confidence and energy.
In craft, the children’s fingers have been busy finger knitting balls of wool in all the colours of the rainbow to weave into a circular mandala of colour. It becomes a calming, rhythmic activity once mastered and fills each child with a deep sense of satisfaction as they see the weaving changing and growing with each new colour. It’s been wonderful to see children helping each other and all humming along together to complete their work.
In play, we are seeing lengthening limbs and increased coordination as the children grow and change, becoming more capable and ready for greater challenges.
Here in Hummingbee Kindy, we are celebrating spring with open arms and a skip in our step!
