Exploring nature’s beauty, rain or shine

It’s amazing to think that we are already halfway through the school year. Watching the Rainbow Lorikeets children blossom—growing, learning, building confidence, embracing challenges, and forming meaningful connections—has been truly delightful.

We concluded last term with our beautiful Winter Festival, a heartwarming celebration that brought our Preschool community together to honour the changing season.

This term, we are delighted to introduce some lovely changes to our daily rhythm. Embracing nature’s beauty, we now enjoy a daily walk, rain or shine.

We are so fortunate to have our little Shearwater nestled in such a wonderful environment, filled with opportunities to explore, connect, and learn. Each day, after our Morning Greeting circle and before morning tea, we go for a walk. It’s always the same route, which allows us to observe the changing seasons and helps the children feel secure (they know the routine, so they can relax and enjoy!). We are watching the morning dew sparkle, admiring the mighty mountain close to our Preschool, eagerly waiting for the bananas to ripen for picking, and observing the mulberry tree as she slowly dresses in her green leaves.

These daily walks not only help the children connect with the natural world but also bring a sense of calm and joy to our mornings. The children have settled in beautifully, and the new rhythm is flowing smoothly.

Additionally, every week on our second day of Preschool, we head to Grandfather Fig Tree after morning tea. Under its generous shade, the children enjoy free play—climbing, exploring, and having so much fun!

As Rudolf Steiner wisely remarked, “The education of the senses is the first step towards a true understanding of the world.” By spending time under the fig tree and exploring freely, we nurture a sense of wonder and curiosity, embodying Steiner’s belief that “Nature is the source of wonder, and the child should be allowed to experience it without any interference.”

Warmest wishes,
