As the days are growing shorter and the nights are growing colder, we have sung goodbye to guyumbu – mullet season, here on Bundjalung Country, and welcomed waringu, the cold season, with songs and stories. As we feel the chill in the air, we take notice of the changes in the world around us. Our songs and stories help us to tune in; to notice the changes taking place around us, in our beautiful Kindy garden, and on our walks around the School. These ever-recurring seasonal changes are full of magic and bring much wonder to us.
With the cold nights here, it is time for everyone to keep cosy and warm. The children lovingly painted their little pots so that they could cosily tuck the bulb babies up for the winter nights ahead. Our little bulb babies will stay tucked up warm, and sleep through the winter. They await the warm change to awaken. We will take care of them as we wait to see what will spring forth as the days begin to warm once again.
Excitement is in the air as we prepare for our Kindy Winter Festival. Each day the children sing our winter songs with enthusiasm. We have been busy making lanterns and beeswax candles for the night of the festival. The children have made decorations for the room and invitations for their families. Through purposeful work with our hands, we bring joy and meaning to these tasks, as we wait eagerly for the day we will celebrate with our families.
