Fairy Wrens

As the seasonal calendar turns once again to summer and we draw close to the end of our year together, we give thanks and prepare to celebrate such a wonderful year in our Fairy Wrens Preschool group.  The children have delighted in acknowledging the seasons and noticing the changes we see all around us in Mother Nature. We have also been following the Bundjalung six season cultural calendar and we now find ourselves in moogerahmbu, the stormy season. The children have much to share about thunder and lightning and the gardens needing the raindrops!

We are immersed in the preparations for our little end of year Summer Festival and celebration, to be held with reverence and warmth with our beloved families. The children’s contributions of preparing, crafting, singing and sharing these gifts, fosters a deepening sense of belonging and connectedness with our community and the world around them. We gather together to celebrate the joy and wonder of summer time, the beauty of nature, and the honouring of a year of learning and growing, playing, laughing, singing, creating and having fun together with our friends.

We are preparing our little boats ready to set sail on our festival day. The children have been working with their will forces, developing their inner drive, focus and perseverance, with all our usual daily work and play, but also especially as they work on the sanding of their boats and the wet felting of the sails. Singing as they go and admiring each other’s handiwork, by feeling with their sense of touch, just how smooth each other’s boats feel when sanded. The children are showing delight and a sense of accomplishment with each step of the process. It is getting very exciting as our festival day is getting closer! Even so, our days still flow with the familiar rhythm and routines that have carried us all through the year. And what a wonderful year it has been!
