Ngalawaa Bulaan Gii
During Term 1, some of our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander High School students attended Ngalawaa Bulaan Gii (Gathering Together Leadership Camp) with Culture College, on Bundjalung Country, South Ballina.
Through the week we made spears and woomeras, swam in the Richmond River, collected pippis and worms, learnt Bundjalung language from Chris Cook, explored kinship skin systems and knowledge from East Yolngu family, danced with Yugembeh family from Fingal and painted ochre with artist Melissa Ladkin. We made connections and yarned about shared experiences with students from many schools within the Bundjalung Nation. All of the students connected like family and felt like they had a positive experience. The week took us all on a journey for which I am grateful for, and humbled by. We are looking forward to the next camp!
