The Shearwater chess team had a successful start in the first round of the NSW Junior Chess League Secondary Schools Competition hosted by Mullum High this month. The team secured an overall win, with wins on boards 1 and 2 by Harry Beck and Elijah Johnson, who both carried out a series of carefully planned strategic moves.

Despite losses on boards 3 and 4, Jed Brain and Arrow Brown showcased good games. Luka Carnovale, who came as a spare, also had a satisfying friendly game against her Mullum High counterpart. The team is excited for the upcoming second round. Best of luck to the Shearwater chess team in their future competitions!
