The College of Teachers

Picture
At the heart of this school lies the College of Teachers, which is responsible for the educational philosophy and direction of the school. The College is composed of all teachers in the school and meets every Thursday for two and half hours. Student teachers are also invited to attend as observers. This meeting is devoted entirely to educational matters – administration and day-to-day running is dealt with at a separate meeting. The teachers are invited to share the work of their class, the content of their lessons, and most importantly discuss the progress of their pupils.
This forum allows all teachers the opportunity of focussing the attention of the school’s teaching body on any educational problem confronting them. Case studies of children are often presented, allowing the consciousness of the College to assist in the assessment of the pupil. By these means, awareness of the learning difficulties and social problems experienced by pupils is spread throughout the teaching body.
The College has appointed 9 coordinators who support the school management with specific administrative and managerial tasks, such as event-organisation, time-tabling, professional development and the likes.

The Parent Community

The Parent community takes responsibility for fund-raising, community liaison and other initiatives such as desk making. The families forming the school community may also share in the rich cultural life of the school through its festivals and celebrations, concerts and plays, school projects and excursions, planning and study groups.
Shearwater is proud to be able to lean on a strong Parents & Friends Association, supporting the school with fundraising, knowledge-transfer, visioning and other initiatives.

The Student Representative Council

The Student Representative Council, with its two elected representatives from each Class (7 to 12), gives students an avenue to express their thoughts, needs and concerns to the College of Teachers and the School Board.
