Caitlin Braithwaite – Class of 2008

When did you graduate from Shearwater and what did you do after?

I graduated from Shearwater in 2008, and went straight on to study Sport and Exercise Science at Southern Cross Uni, where i have met some amazing friends and had a memorable 3 years enjoying the Uni life.

How do you look back at your time here. What is a memory that stands out?

I was at Shearwater for 14 years, from pre-school until year 12. I loved everything about Shearwater and learnt so much from all my teachers and classmates. The relationship between the teachers and students at Shearwater is something that really stands out for me. The teachers have so much respect for the students and really care about their education.

It is hard to single out one memory from my time at Shearwater, but I’d have to say one of the best memories I have is from our year 9 desert camp where our whole class spent a month together traveling to central Australia in a tiny bus and living out of our swags. I feel that we all learnt so much from this experience and it really gave us a chance to connect with each other. I also have some amazing memories from the many events i was involved with at school such as the WAVE Wearable Arts event and all the winter festivals that I was a part of.

Are you still in touch with former class mates or teachers?

Yes I still keep in touch with most of my classmates and am still very close friends with some of them. I also try to visit school as much as possible and come and say hi to everyone. Every time i come back to school it brings back amazing memories of my time there.

What is it that you are currently pursuing in your life?

I am almost at the end of my degree in Sport and Exercise Science and am saving for a few overseas trips. I’m off to Bali in a few weeks, then New Zealand in a couple of months, and early next year I will be going to Fiji for a couple of weeks to volunteer in one of the villages.
I don’t really have much of a plan for the future, but as long as I’m enjoying myself and doing something I love, then I’ll be happy.
